Rio de la Plata All Fishing and Experience
The Rio de la Plata is not another River, instead is the widest River on earth (reaching almost 500 miles wide), it´s so vast that when it was discovered by Spanish at XVI century, the believed that it was a sea, but a freshwater one.
Home of a wide variety of species, among which lives the Golden Dorado. Depending on the time of the year you visit us, we´ll look for one or another of the exciting species that resides here.

If you want one day fishing program near Buenos Aires (at 30 minutes from your hotel approx.), you just need drop us a line on WhatsApp (right here) or contact us through the contact form.
We have an all-inclusive service. Door to door (with our cars and drivers who bring you up to the river and next, after a complete day of fishing, to your hotel). Also, we provide you with the gear you need depending de fishing and species. Lunch and drinks are also included.
To make the reserve you just pay a 30% of the total in advance and then at the harbor you pay off the rest to the guide.
We run the operation between friends, all the members of SALMINUS are friends, locals and nature lovers, equipped with the best skiff for this kind of waters, with all the security elements to navigate in this tricky river. The guide partner and best friend, Lucas (a fly fisherman and all-around complete fisherman) have almost 20 years of experience here and he has the charm and personality to live with you a great experience.
We have room for 4 Fishermen in the skiff (regular fishing with live bait) or 2/3 Fly Fishermen (only 2 can fish at the same time), also you can fish single if you want it. The Skiff has enough space (it’s 21 feet with a 140HP).

Species and Seasons in the Rio de la Plata
Depending the time of the year we can find different species in these waters
Spring/Summer:
From September to March
GOLDEN DORADO
(Salminus Maxillosus)
On top of the food chain we find the Golden Dorado”, one of the most powerful and beautiful freshwater fish on earth.
We can fish it from live bait, bait casting, trolling, and fly fishing, depending water conditions and anglers’ skills (also depending the number of fishermen in the skiff of course).
Sizes caught here from 2 pounds to 10 pounds average. And sometime we have lucky!

SEA CATFISH
(Pimelodus Albicans)
A Catfish with steroids, right from the sea they come to spawn in the Rio de la Plata. Is necessary live bait near the bottom of the deepest pools (24 to 30 feet depth).
Sizes from 4 pounds to 12 pounds.

BOGA
(Leporinus Obtusidens)
The “Lady of the River”. A beautiful omnivore fish, which lives from Brazil to Argentina. Pound by Pound maybe more powerful than Golden Dorado, but the Lady of the River doesn’t jump.
This fishing is done while anchor using different kinds of baits.
Average size here is from 3 to 6 pounds, so they are really big for the species.

WOLFISH
(Hoplias Malabaricus)
Like a Jurassick Fish, the Wolfish also lives here in these waters. It’s a territorial and super aggressive fish. They jump and give us a wonderful strike and battle in the shallows.
Sometime is necessary to wade in muddy waters to reach them. Bait Cast and live bait is required to mobilize a Wolfish.
Sizes from 4 pounders to 8 pounders in average.

BLUE WOLFISH
(Hoplias Lacerdae)
Cousin of the Wolfish, the blue one is slightly different but bigger and more powerful. They are more difficult to find, but when the conditions and the time of the season are right we know where they live.
For us, the blue Wolfish is the most exciting member of the “Hoplias” family.
Nice Blue Wolfish an acrobatic, powerful fish.

GIANT PATí
(Pimelodus Patí)
An exotic and endemic species of Catfish. A powerful fish. The rule to find them is a drift fishing with live natural bait, so you can relax and float in the vastness of the Rio de la Plata with your rod on your hands waiting the connection with one of his giants.

SURUBI
(Pseudoplastytoma Tigrinum)
This kind of Catfish is unique. Maybe one of the most beautiful and powerful catfish in all South America.
This fish can live more than two decades and weight over than a hundred pounds!
Here in the Rio de la Plata is a difficult but not impossible to find. We usually connect them when we´re looking for Golden Dorado and Giant Patí with live natural bait.
The average weight here is from 8 to 20 pounds.

VAMPIRE FISH
(Raphiodon Vulpinus)
An occasional visitant of the Rio de la Plata, super aggressive and acrobatic fish, also known like “Ghost Fish”, because one week is plenty of this fish and the next week is like they disappear.
Usually, we find them while we are fishing with fly and bait cast looking for Golden Dorado.
Average sizes are from 3 pounds to 6 pounds down here.
Fishing in Buenos Aires for Vampire Fish is possible when the conditions are perfect.
WINTER SEASSON
From April to September the water conditions changes and starts the best moment to fish the “Silver Sliders”, here is the PEJERREY (it means “King Fish”), and other local nickname is “Flecha de Plata” (“Silver Arrow”) or “Gran Parana”.

The Rio de la Plata is the home of the biggest Silver Sliders of the World.
These fish come here year after year to feed and spawn.
It’s a different kind of fishing in which we use 14” long telescopic rods and float apparel. A super exciting fish and one of the most popular fish in Argentina
